'5G Horizons' symbolizes the limitless opportunities, innovations, and advancements that can be achieved through the deployment and utilization of 5G networks.

This seminar serves as a platform for comprehensive exploration of key 5G-related subjects, including Reduced Capability, AR/VR/XR, FR2 versus FR1, Beam Management, Network Slicing, Ultra Low Latency, and a sneak peek into the highly-anticipated Release 18. Our esteemed speakers will not only unravel the intricacies of these topics but also provide valuable insights into our very own 5G testbeds in SIT@Dover.

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Detection Demonstration

One of the event's most captivating moments was the live demonstration of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Detection, where a drone captured video footage on a mock runway *in this case in our lab environment. This footage was processed using edge computing in a Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) setup, showcasing 5G's capability to support high resolution video streaming and edge computing for video analytics.

The existing FOD detection with 4G network is based on periodic image capturing and the image data to be transferred from the drone to a processor node thru a VPN server in data center (with maximum data rate of 15Mbps). The high bandwidth and ultra low latency of 5G network allows real-time data feed with live video streaming and improved data transfer rate by reducing round trip communication with data center thru edge computing.
